Coming from QLC+?
DMX Total Control is built on the QLC+ engine, another free-software project, so your shows open as they are. Here is what you will find and what changes.
What opens as it is
The fixtures and their patch, the universes and outputs (with the same input and output plugins) and all the functions, each one as the matching scene type:
| In QLC+ | In DMX Total Control |
|---|---|
Scene | Static scene |
Sequence | Steps |
Chaser | Chaser: plays as it is; to edit it, it is converted to steps |
EFX | Move FX |
RGB Matrix | Colour FX |
Collection | Effect rack |
Show | Super scene, with its audio |
What is kept for QLC+
- Your show’s Virtual Console and Simple Desk are not used here, but they are kept when you save: if you open the show in QLC+ again, they are still there.
- QLC+ can read the engine part of DMX Total Control shows. What is specific to this program (groups, SHOW, playbacks, palettes, per-parameter FX, cuelists) only exists here.
- To leave the original untouched, open it and use “Save as…”.
What changes in the way you work
Live by groups
Instead of building buttons, you arrange scenes in exclusive or mix groups and fire them with one button.
In the manualYour SHOW
You build the operating screen section by section, and “Start from my groups” fills it for you.
In the manualPlaybacks with GO
Pages of faders with GO, Pause/Back and Flash for cuelists and scenes.
In the manualA console programmer
Palettes by reference, per-parameter FX, a command line and priorities from 0 to 10.
In the manualYour fixtures
Options › “Import my QLC+ fixtures” copies the ones you created on this computer, and .qxf files can be imported too. More in Fixtures.
Thanks to the people who make QLC+: without their engine, this program would not exist.
